The second Maui Race series race was held this past Saturday at Kanaha beach park and was sponsored by Carbon Art windsurfing Boards who made it a memorable event. The wind was consistent from the morning with Trades blowing around 15-22 knots.

The morning races were the skill divisions and it was evident from the get go that it was going to be a good day. The outstanding sailor of the day Tamara Bockius already made her mark on the expert division by winning with two firsts and a second.

The Semi Pro was won by visiting mainland sailor Jordan Reid who just arrived on Maui last week, but proved too good for everyone in the mornings expert division races. Phil McGain was able to sail consistently to secure third place in the men’s pro division behind Peter Slate and Dan Ellis.

The age group races took place in the afternoon with Tamara Bockius putting on a race clinic for the rest of the women, securing her second Title of the day. Tamara Bockius sail aggressively off the starts and then taking each jibe very tight, put together three firsts and one second place to dominate the fleet.

Sailor Bockius determined to improve her sailing decided to race the junior division again placed second to Deniz Bicakci.

Phil McGain started well in the mens 49-50 age group securing a bullet in the first heat, however the second heat was a disaster for McGain as he sailed right past and below the first bouy as he pushed too hard coming to the mark. Heat three and four proved that McGain can handle the pressure sailed away from the fleet with two bullets and thus winning the Title for the day in the Mens 49-50 age group.

Great days racing. For full results of the Carbon Art Challenge see the Maui Race Series Website.
